Flying “Flower”

The butterfly is a flying flower,
The flower a tethered butterfly.
~Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun

This little “fellow” was flitting around me the other day when I came home from work. I didn’t really have the right lens for photographing a butterfly, my 55-250mm lens was on my camera, but I made do!  I almost felt like it was trying to send me a message, sort of like Tinkerbelle flying around Peter Pan’s head!
I have not had time to try and identify, so if any one has that answer, I would love to hear what it is!
EDITED TO ADD – Thanks to Misty Dawn, this has been identified as a a Red Spotted Purple.
We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.  ~Author Unknown

“Just living is not enough,” said the butterfly, “one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower.”  ~Hans Christian Andersen

The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.  ~Rabindranath Tagore

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun And find your shoulder to light on, To bring you luck, happiness and riches Today, tomorrow and beyond. ~Irish Blessing

  1. It's a red spotted purple. I've been chasing one for a couple of days not, but haven't been able to get a good shot. They are beautiful!
