Yesterday evening after I worked, Tara and I headed to to Hollywood Studios to ride the Great Movie Ride one last time. This is such a classic ride at Hollywood Studios, and one that was very nostalgic for Tara and I. When we heard last month it was closing, Tara jumped right on line and made fast passes for us. I made sure to request to open that day, as it is nearly impossible at this time to have a Sunday off!
Only a Disney addict requests time off for a DISNEY RIDE lol!
Right in line with our being at that park that day, one of my “work daughters’ from PA and her parents were in Disney for the weekend. They too are huge Disney fans, and feed my Disney urgings with mugs and cups when they would visit. It worked out that we were able to meet up in Hollywood Studios that evening before their dinner reservations!
Hollywood Studios was so much busier than it has been since our return. While many people thought TheGreat Movie Ride was old and outdated, it had a huge fan base! It is still sad that such a center piece of the park is now gone.
Before our Fast Pass time we headed to Toy Story Mania with the Young’s. We usually don’t do Stand by for this ride, but the wait time was 60 minutes and we had catching up to do, so the time went quickly and I got to see the stand by queue! Of course Tara beat me again!
We said our good byes until next time, the Young’s visit Disney frequently, and headed to get in line for TGMR! With our Fast Pass. the wait was minimal. It was sad knowing this was the last time to hear Robert Osborne’s voice narrating the pre ride show.
Then it was time to load onto the ride for the great finale. We had good guides this time. Lately we had some that were not so great! We even had the cowboy scene, when generally we would have the gangster scene. That was a nice treat for our last ride! You know fire, and all!
Some of my favorite scenese of TGRM were Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz… follow the yellow bring road, follow the yellow brick road and Singin in the Rain.
Once we were done the ride, and wandered around for a bit (it was really really crowded around the theater) we grabbed some lattes at The Trolley Stop and then made our way to the Tower of Terror (or Tower of Tara…. she LOVES this ride.) I waited outside, I haven’t gotten up my nerve yet to ride again. I was on 14 years ago when we were here on vacation, but I am just not sure if I can handle the “anticipation” of the drops. The drops don’t scare me, it is not knowing when they will occur! I like to be in control!
After Tower of Terror, we headed out of the park toward home. Hollywood Studios is our go to park when we just want a couple of hours of Disney with little hassle entering and exiting. I love all of Disney at night, but there is something extra special about all the lighting in HS!
It was a great evening!
It’s a wrap!
Love, lattes, and Disney magic!
