To infinity and BEYOND!

30 Days About Me

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

Day 30- A dream for the future beyond the next year…think long term

Gosh, I have enough trouble thinking about tomorrow, let alone LONG TERM. Honestly, I’ve never been a planner. If you have been reading all month, you might remember when I moved to Florida, I made up my mind, found a house and moved within 2 months! That’s the way I roll!

I wish for continued health and happiness for my family. My mom is 87, and I hope she has many more QUALITY years to spend with us!

I love my job, but being on my feet all day is hard. I dream of a sit down (work at home type) job doing the things I love on line; blogging, photography, social media “stuff”, but believe me I won’t quite my day job!

I dream of the day that Tara and I can take a real vacation. We just never seem to be able to save up for that splurge. I dream of taking her to a destination of her choice for her 16th birthday. (I better start saving or playing the lottery!)

So, that’s it for me!
This sure has been a fun ride! I need to get around and visit you all this week. It has just been so insane, with little ME time.

Thanks Toni for hosting this great challenge… I’m not done though, I still have to get that “what’s in my bag” picture off my memory card and get that posted!

I’ll do it….. later.

Day 27- Worst Habit
30 Days About Me
Well, let me see if you can guess? I SHOULD have posted this one yesterday, but I’m not getting to it until TODAY!

I procrastinate at times. Mostly because I want things to be perfect, and if I’m not coming up with perfect, I put it aside.

My not posting yesterday had more to do with Hurricane Irene though. We were lucky, had no issues from the storm, but I just could not get into opening up the laptop and writing.

Day 26- Favorite clothing store.
30 Days About Me

I HATE clothes shopping at my current size!
I’d rather shop at Best Buy for new toys!

My Dog?

Day 25- Who is/are your best friends?

This is a hard one for me to answer.
Princess, my dog, she is always there for me, always willing to listen to me (especially if I have a tasty treat for her!) She’s wagging her tail when I come home, and looks sad when I leave for work!

I have people who I consider friends, people who I have known since elementary and middle school, and that I occasionally chat with. However, I don’t have that go to person to pick up the phone and say, “I need to get away, let’s go get a cup of coffee.”.

Maybe this is why I love blogging, Twitter and Facebook so much. There is ALWAYS someone there to listen to me! Throughout my life, I always seemed to be at a different stage than many of my friends.

Many events over the last sixteen years have isolated me from close friendships. My marriage was isolating, I worked from home, I had Tara later in life, I moved away and back.

Friendships from years past did withstand distance. Remember – there was no email, blogging, Twitter or Facebook back in the day.

Over the years in my career I had “good friends”, people I hung out with, people I confided in, even though we all worked “virtually”, we tried to find time to get together. Friends who lived 100s of miles away who I did consider my BEST FRIENDS. I’ve had two – Joanne (she lives in VA) and Lin (she lives in NJ). When we worked together, even though we lived far apart, I usually spoke in length to both of these ladies every day.

When I retired from AT&T, and I was SURE I would keep in contact with all of my friends and co-workers, but it is hard. Some aren’t as connected as I, I’m a social media addict!

I do love the fact when I do get together or have the chance to talk to these friends that it almost feels like no time has passed, we can jump right back in!

It’s all good though! I’ve got my dog!

Home Sweet Home

30 Days About Me

Today I get to tell you a little bit about where I live.
I live in Upper Gwynedd Township, PA, Montgomery County, PA. Lansdale is the closest town. We are located in South eastern Pennsylvania.

Are all states as confusing as PA with their townships, boroughs, counties and cities?

Lansdale is celebrationg Founder’s Day this weekend with a day full of activities concluding with fireworks which I hope to be able to attend. (We have a long awaited family wedding this weekend!)

I still think of this area as “small town” America. Things have changed a lot since I grew up here, but some things are still the same. There is a revitalization going on in the downtown area, and I have high hopes that it will be brought back to it’s glory!  Along with the suburban areas, we still have several working farms in the area. Giving it a bit of rural feel.

Merck (drug manufacturer) is one of the areas largest employers.

Lansdale really isn’t famous for much. I think a episode of Fringe was “set” (but not filmed here. Lansdale has a train station and a Kugel Bal (see picture below). We have a mall.

Our local public high school was part of Newsweek’s Top High School list this year. It is huge and houses 10th – 12th grades. I think over 1200 were in the graduating class this year. When I graduated back in 1976 from the same school it was about 1/3 the size and we had around 720. Tara will attend that school next year.

I love living in this area because of it’s convenience to so many things. We are less than 30 miles from Philadelphia, 2 – 2 1/2 hours to NYC, 3 hours to Washington, DC. The Pocono mountains are an hour or so away, and we can be at the beach (down the shore if you live in NJ and PA – in about 1 1/2 hrs).

As I work to redefine my blog since I’ve moved to my new WP home, I hope to highlight and review local businesses. I really do love my home town!

Sweets and joy and joyness!

30 Days About Me

Day 23- Something you love to watch on YouTube

I am not a big YouTube user, unless I’m looking for a song to share! I do have a You Tube channel. I’m not big on making videos because my voice always sounds like I have laryngitis because of my paralyzed vocal cord.

Tara has always been big into YouTube. She can spend hours watching videos.

There is one video out there that always makes me laugh, and many times out of nowhere either Tara or I will recite a line or two or three!
Charlie the Unicorn! (yeah, sometimes I revert back to my 14 year old self!)

oh, and here’s another one of Tara’s favorites, that I can’t help to love. (It’s a little “edgy” for my blog) Tara is obsessed with her hair and it is the first thing she notices about a ‘boy’! Pshyeah!

Oh what a dangled web we weave!

30 Days About Me
Day 22- Some of Your Favorite Websites
What did we do before the internet? We had to do research using BOOKS. Do kids even use encylopedias any longer?

I guess my all time favorite website has to be “GOOGLE“, from there I can answer just about any question. It is my homepage when I open up Firefox.

Do Facebook and Twitter count as websites?

How about Mapquest. It has helped me get to so many places. The Mapquest app on my iPhone rocks too!
Although I don’t go here as often as I did when we lived in Orlando, who doesn’t love Disney.

Get Glue is fun. I use this one mostly on my iPhone. I always loved stickers! You get stickers for watching things and doing stuff!

I like websites where I can find quotes. I like quotes.
Quote Garden

I have lots of favorite bloggers. I don’t want to name them here, I’m afraid I might forget someone and I don’t want to hurt feelings!

What’s Cooking?

For Day 21 of 30 Days about Me, we are to share our favorite recipe.
30 Days About Me
These recipes have been shared on this blog before, but they are my favorites and worth repeating. I’m excited to be using this recipe plugin!!!

I’ve never really understood why so many people don’t like meatloaf. It has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. I don’t know if my mother always used this same recipe, but this is the one we have used for many years. One of my favorite meals was meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas!

This cake recipe has been another family favorite. It was given to my mother by a friend long ago. It was our go to cake for many occasions. My parents were not drinkers, so we did not have alcohol in the house, but after we started making this recipe, there was always a bottle of rum! When we started our twice annual vacations in St. Croix, we would always bring back bottles of Cruzan Rum. This cake is not a yummy dessert, but also has many wonderful memories to go with it!

Cherry Nut Rum Cake

Never Forget

Day 20- Something you wished you could forget

30 Days About Me

For this one, I honestly don’t have an answer.

Certainly, there are things I have done in my life that I have regretted or wish I had done differently. Who hasn’t?

Each one has helped to make me the person I am today. Life is about making mistakes, learning from them and moving on! It’s when you continue to make the same mistake over and over that there is a problem!

As the parent of a teenager, I have been able to use some of the things I wish I had done differently as “teaching” moments for Tara. It has been a little difficult to admit to my child some of the bad choices I have made, but if it helps her in the end, it is totally worth it!

“One can enjoy a rainbow without necessarily forgetting the forces that made it” – Mark Twain

(Okay, so maybe I would like to forget some of my crazy fashion choices in the 80s)

My Favorite Hobby

Day 19- A talent/hobby

I’m pretty amazed at myself for having made it this far through 30 Days About Me! Have you joined in on the fun? Stop over at Toni’s and check out the other participants!
30 Days About Me

The hobby that I practice the most is photography. Photography is what got me interested in blogging, and blogging is why I am here! You can see my photography from over the past few years on my Photos by MAK blog.

I always loved taking pictures, however, our time living in Orlando gave me so many opportunities to do what I loved. There was so much to see and do that cost us little out of pocket (since we had annual passes to Sea World and Disney), so while Tara had fun on the rides, I had fun finding different perspectives on the things around us. Wildlife was a bit more interesting there too – alligators, turtles, armadillos, and more types of birds than I can name!

There were times when Tara said I liked my camera more than her! I feel over the past few months, I have not engaged in this hobby as much as I like. I have been feeling less than inspired. I need that one good event or outing to get my inspiration back.

I have tried many crafts over the years. I have completed quite a few counted cross stitch pieces. That required total concentration and once I was a mom, I never felt I had enough uninterrupted time! I still have pieces I would like to complete (before the fabric turns to dust!)

I’m just not a really “crafty” artistic person I guess. I admire people who can pick up a piece of fabric, or a bowl from a flea market and make something cool!

I like to cook too, but lately I’m uninspired in that area as well. That has more to do with the people in my household. Two different ends of the spectrum when it comes to likes and dislikes of food!

I’m beginning to think that “social media” is my new hobby!

What do you do in your spare time that makes you happy?
