Skywatch Friday

I’m posting really late this week.  I’ve been having trouble with all of my photo memes coming up with the inspiration of what photos to choose. Click on the button  to visit other sky shots from around the world!

This first photo is not good.  It was taken with my IPhone, shooting basically into the sun, because, what I was capturing was a “halo” around the sun.  My daughter first noticed the “little rainbow” in the middle of the sky.  I did not have my Canon with me, so I figured I would give it a try with the IPhone.  Were the “flare” is in the photo is the spot at which the “rainbow” was.  The halo goes out from that point.  My view to the left was blocked by the building I was parked next to.

A circular halo, often referred to as just a halo, is formed by the refraction of sunlight through cloud suspended ice crystals as opposed to raindrops or other liquid water suspended in the air. It has been cold and damp all day, as a snow storm is approaching.

Now for something a little warmer, some sunlight refraction through raindrops!

I was going through some Sea World photos this week, looking for some underwater shots and found a couple “sky shots” that I thought I would share.

Also in my Sea World folders, I found a few shots that are great for James, Weekend Reflections. James and Vicki come home this weekend!  I can’t wait to hear about their trip and to see how Lucy and the boys made out home alone!!!

Sky Watch Friday and Weekend Reflections

I took this photo on Tuesday night, not “officially” the full moon, but close enough.  I think the sunset was beautiful that night too, but we were visiting my aunt, and I forgot to go back outside!

These were taken yesterday around noon.  I woke in the morning to a balmy blustery morning around 65 degrees with clear blue skies.  When I ran out to the supermarket around noon, this is what was in front of us.  Didn’t have my Canon with me, but the trusty IPhone did a pretty good job!

I’m going to combine James’ Weekend Reflection with this post.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am missing James, Vicki and Lucy the cat.  I hope they are having a fabulous time in Europe, and Lucy is holding things together with the Simba and Bucky while they are home alone.

Liberty Square River boat at night – (I always loved this photo, taken in 2006, my photography and camera have improved since then!)

Liberty Square Riverboat is an authentic 3-tiered paddlewheel steamship journey that circles the Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom theme park for a scenic, half-mile tour of Frontierland, Liberty Square and Tom Sawyer Island.

Skywatch Friday – Up, Up and Away….

Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon
Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon
We could float among the stars together, you and I
For we can fly we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon
The world’s a nicer place in my beautiful balloon
It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon
We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky
For we can fly we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon

I have love hot air balloons for years, in fact when I got my first 35mm camera (Canon AE-1, I believe) in the 80s, my first outing was a Balloon Festival at the Quakertown, PA airport. I still have some of those printed photos!

I had not seen a balloon in the sky for some time, so I was ecstatic behind the wheel of my car when I saw one in the distance on Sunday. It looked to be in the sky over where had just come from, but I had to keep moving forward to my intended destination. I made one stop in a parking lot to snap a far off photo with the sun in the wrong place, but at least if nothing else I had captured it! They sky really was lovely, just before sunset, I only wish I’d been able to get away from the power lines!

As we got closer to our destination (the supermarket) I realized the balloon was headed in the same direction and would be right overhead. Perfect, I would be able to park the car in a safe spot, and get out and take pictures. Luckily on my way out the door that day for some time in the park, I had rememered to bring my EFS 55-250mm lens.

While some people walked out of the store, looking at their shoes never seeing the sight up above, and others pointed at the beautiful balloon in the sky, I was the only one who was happily snapping away to record the moment! Another reason why I never (well almost) leave home without my camera!
