Fragmented Virtual Friday!

It’s late… I’m just getting to my blog for the day (and actually not posting until 5:45 Saturday morning!)

Unknown MamiVGNO Friday

I have been highly anticipating 3 pm today, as it was the start of a four day weekend for me. One with no real plans, but some hope that some adventures might ensue!

I am actually home ALONE for the 2nd night in a row, this NEVER EVER happens! Tara and my mother gone at the same time! Guess, what, tonight, I’m LONELY! boo hoo! I usually LOVE being home alone!

This however, hasn’t been just any week!

Tuesday night at about 10:59, there was a terrible turn of events that threw this week all topsy turvy.

Tara’s best friend/boyfriend (he had just asked her to officially be his girlfriend earlier that evening – they’ve been BFFs for two years) was hit by a car while riding his skateboard home (to his dad’s) from our house. He was here from his mom’s home in NJ visiting his dad and Tara for the week.

He was airlifted to CHOP in Philly. He has some serious injuries, surgery was required, he will have months of recovery, but in the end, if all goes well he should be good as new.

There are many more details, but Justin’s story really isn’t mine to tell!  We are just part of the ripple effect. I have know Justin for two years, I know he is the one person that has ALWAYS been there for Tara and they have a deep connection. I can’t help but care about him and his family as well!

For a 16 year old who has not experienced a serious illness, injury or death of a someone close to her, you can imagine Tara was and still is a mess. We are already battling panic and anxiety issues with her.

Fortunately he was up to a visit from Tara on Thursday.I was off from work, so we took a trip to CHOP. It was good for both of them. I’m always up for an adventure to Philly. Fortunately I’d never had to visit CHOP before. It is a pretty amazing (and huge) hospital. This is the hospital that the little girl Sarah, just received her lung transplant earlier this week after so much controversy.

southstreetbridge (1)

I’m am of course very concerned for Justin, his family, and Tara as well. My instinct is to want to do anything I possibly can to help them, but I am exhausted! What a way to met someone’s parents for the first time!

I’ve learned to ALWAYS make sure I have contact info for Tara’s friends parents. It is so easy to forget about that when kids have cell phones and are many times in contact with their parents while they are with friends.

I also was reminded that LIFE can change in an instant, we should take NO ONE and nothing for granted! This could have been so much worse, and I feared that it might be for a few hours!

So that was my week, how the heck was yours?

It’s time to virtual party with Ann!

I did have an awesome drink when we stopped at Red Lobster for dinner…If I had mint in the house I’d be making one of these babies now! (Note to self, buy a mint plant!)

Strawberry Mojito

1 1/2 oz rum
1 lime, cut into quarters
several leaves of fresh mint
3-4 fresh strawberries
1 tbsp. simple syrup or sugar (You may double that. I like mine on the “less sweet side”)
Club Soda
Muddling the limes and mint for mojitos
Put the lime quarters and whole mint leaves into a tall Collins glass. Using a muddler or strong wooden spoon, gently crush the mint and limes to extract the juice and flavors. When the limes have been juiced completely, remove the spent quarters. Leave the mint leaves.
Crushing the strawberries into the mint and lime
Now add the fresh strawberries and simple syrup to the mint. Muddle again until the strawberries have been crushed. Add the rum and ice. Top with cold club soda, then stir and garnish with fresh mint or a lime wedge or a strawberry slice.

I’m sharing another Imagine Dragon’s song this week. I like this band! “It’s Time”

Now for the party game!

LOL, I’m “No carbs for me Barbie” when in reality, these days, although I should cut out the carbs, I’m more like “Have you Seen my Keys” Barbie (in fact, this morning I had to use my spare set, but apparently my other set were in my purse all the time!)

Which Barbie are you?

“Modern Barbie”
(Use the chart to find which Barbie you are. Use the letter of your first name.)A – C = Sunscreen Barbie
D – F = Is There Gluten In This?
G – I = Lactose Intolerate Barbie
J – L =  Do These Jeans Make My Butt Look Fat? Barbie
M -O = No Carbs For Me Barbie
P – R = Mini Van Barbie
S – V = Have You Seen My Keys? Barbie
W – Z =  Migraine Barbie

Remember, don’t take any minute of your day or anyone in your life for granted!

Let’s Get This Summer Started

VGNO Friday

It’s Friday night and time for a party! This week, Friday is my Wednesday again! I still have two days of work before another day off! At least I have MONDAY off, and next weekend I have a FOUR DAY weekend. I’ll be doing some VGNO partying next week! LOL!

The REALITY of my Friday night is; I’m drinking coffee from my Margaritaville mug, doing laundry,a watching a movie – The Numbers Station,( I like an occasional spy thriller) and I’ve got  “girl movie” Safe Haven for later!

It’s raining cats and dogs, more like lions and bears! For us, Andrea is more of a rain event, not too windy!  Tonight is a good night to stay inside! Unfortunately our town’s First Friday event is rained out! It’s always a great time for the community to get together and support our downtown merchants, and enjoy good music and other activities!

I had a pretty good week. Tara’s homebound instruction finally started. She will have about 8 hours of instruction to make up for 3 weeks of school work. The tutor’s come to the house so she get’s 1 hour of one on one instruction for the four main subjects.

Next week will be crazy with Tara’s tutors and doctor appointments and I believe she will have to go to school at some point to take  two finals.Oh, and not to mention her bass lesson. I will be ready for the four day weekend once it’s all over! We also have a “family counselor” and a “child advocate” involved through the county who will be working with us through the summer. We probably will be meeting with one of them next week.

I am totally not, never have been one of those mom’s that thrive on lots of activities and appointments for their kids! I think Tara has been to see more medical professionals since April than she had her entire life!

So this really isn’t a party song, but one I just found tonight. My daughter hasn’t gotten int to this band, but one of her friends mentioned it last week. I love the name IMAGINE DRAGONS. The song is DEMONS. The lyrics are here.

For tonight’s party, I’m going to serve a Tropical Storm themed beverage!

Malibu Tropical Storm

  • 1 Part Malibu Rum
  • 1 Part Strawberry Liquor
  • 1 Part Apple Juice

As always, Ann our hostess with the mostess, has a party game for us!

Virtual GNO – Party On!

I had all good intentions of coming home from work on Friday and blogging for Virtual Night Out over at Ann Again and Again, but Friday evening turned into early Saturday morning!

I saw a really YUMMY cocktail over there. One I might just indulge in on Saturday night since I don’t have to be back at work for a full 96 hours.

VGNO Friday (1)

Once 3pm on Saturday rolls around, I don’t go back in until 3pm on Wednesday! I normally don’t like working the evening shift but we are having a Night at the W™ at Walgreens and since I am the “Sr Beauty Advisor” I wanted to be there.

Since my weekend really doesn’t start until tomorrow, I didn’t want to get too comfy and settle in this evening! Tara’s been holding a 90210 marathon so I watched a couple episodes with her and then headed to bed!

I didn’t want to miss Ann’s party though, so here’s a great tune! Tara LOVES music, she has a pretty eclectic taste from what might be called metal or hardcore to pop rock. This band “Of Monsters and Men” is from Iceland and are considered an indie folk/pop band. I really like the mood of this song! I hope you enjoy!

Now for a cocktail, something a little different!

Lavender Margarita

  • oz. silver tequila
  • 1/2 oz. Cointreau
  • oz. lavender simple syrup
  • 1/2 lime
  • sugar
  • dried lavender
In a shaker, combine 2 oz. silver tequila, 1/2 oz. Cointreau, 1 oz.simple syrup and the juice of half a lime and let sit.
On a plate, mix the sugar and dried lavender and use it to rim the outside of a rocks glass.
Fill the glass with ice. Shake and strain the contents of the strainer into the glass.

Let’s say we’re famous.  Let’s say we’re invited to an important formal event.  Fill in the blanks using the chart prompts.
I was drinking champagne and getting ready for my big night out. After putting on my (#1)LAVENDER CHIFFON gown I noticed a huge stain on the front. I screamed at my assistant to find another dress immediately. In this town, at this time of day, all she could find last minute was a (#2)BROWN VELOUR JUMPSUIT! (Hey at least I’d be comfy!)
I took what I could get and made the best of it. And it turns out I rocked it! I was on everybody’s Best Dressed list. It probably had nothing to do with the fact that my date was (#3)RYAN GOSLING! (Johnny and Channing were already other wise engaged!)#1 First letter of the city you live in:A – E = Red Sequined
F – J = Silver Sheath
K – O = Lavender Chiffon
P – T = Black Strapless
U – Z = White Silk

#2 Month you were born:

Jan. – Mar. = Brown Velour Jumpsuit
Apr. – June = Purple MuuMuu
July – Sep. = Orange Housecoat
Oct. – Dec. = Yellow Swimsuit Cover-Up

#3 First letter of your first name:

A – E = George Clooney
F – J = Hugh Jackman
K – O = Ryan Gosling
P – T = Johnny Depp
U – Z = Channing Tatum

I was never a big fan of American Idol. We (Tara) got big time into the Adam Lambert craze after he won Idol. (I have to say I did as well, I enjoyed and still do enjoy his music.) We watched the next season, Tara even had a Twitter friendship with one of the contestants, Alex Ryan, who was voted off early. She was disappointed early on that her favs were gone, and we never really got into the next season!

So that’s my party for this week! I guess I should try and get a couple more hours of sleep! It’s 4:51 am and I need to be at work at 8:00am! I’ve been sleeping better that past few nights, but not very long. There’s still “stuff’ going on in our household causing some stress, but slowing we are getting some help. Resolution might take some time!

Let’s Party

It has been an exhausting few weeks in my house. Way too much teen drama, and a really bad cold that knocked me on my ass for a few days!

Those things all seem so unimportant when measured against the Boston Marathon bombing, and the passing of a little Gavin Leong, the 5 year old son of a local blogger who I follow.

I’ve been off work today, and have been watching the coverage from Watertown, MA most of the day. I am so relieved that they have captured the 2nd suspect with out any additional lives lost.

It is quite stormy tonight. The sky in the photo is lit up by lightening. (Yes, they are “Christmas” lights still up on our patio. I like the colors, they make me happy. They are not really visible to anyone but us, so I’m leaving them up!

photo (1)

It has been SOOO many months since I have joined the Virtual Girls’ Night Out hosted by my friend Ann at Ann Again and Again, but tonight seems like a night to party! I’ve been off work for two days and still have two more ahead of me. Tonight I feel more relaxed than I have in weeks. I enjoyed some sushi for dinner, and Tara is occupied with a friend!

VGNO Friday (1)

I was in the waiting room of a doctor’s office today, leafing through magazines and I saw some yummy drink recipes. I don’t have the proper liquor in the house for tonight…. maybe tomorrow!

Fuzzy Ginger

  • 1 bottle tea (iced tea – they suggest Pure Leaf not so Sweet Peach Tea)
  • 4 ounces tequila (we like oaky-tasting reposado)
  • 4 ounces ginger liqueur, such as Domaine de Canton
  • Ice
  • 4 lime wedges
  • 4 peach slices – for garnishing

  1. In a pitcher, combine tea, tequila and ginger liqueur; stir. Divide among 4 tall, ice-filled glasses. Squeeze a lime wedge into each and garnish with a peach slice.

Ann asks what we are reading. I am reading NOTHING. I never seem to pick up a book anymore, it’s probably been over a year since I read a book. I wish I could find something that grabs my attention from the very first page, but that would require that I actually read the first page! I even downloaded a book to my IPad, and I haven’t read a word.

I have to idea what I will be doing with my day off tomorrow. Sunday evening I will be taking Tara and a couple friends to Philly for another concert. It’s been about six weeks since the last one!

Please stop by and say hi to Ann. She is navigating the rocky road of being the mom of a teen age daughter too, and I am so thankful for her friendship across the internet, even if it’s just a DM in Twitter that I am venting about the latest drama! It’s nice to have someone that understands and doesn’t judge!

Have a great night!

Love and Lattes,

Virtual Girls Night Out

Ann’s got a Virtual Party going on over at her place. Some great Panic! at the Disco music (I’ve actually seen them in concert) and some cocktails. I’m fashionably late to the party. I have a good excuse I was having a “movie night” with my teen. We watched Stephen King’s Langoliers, it was a very good movie. We didn’t argue once, well not until after the movie when I reminded her that she PINKY promised to clean her room!
More Panic! at the Disco (Brendan Urie of this group is on of Tara’s “crushes”),this song makes me SMILE!

Six Word Saturday is hosted by CallMeCate over on Show My Face. Stop over and share what’s on your mind in six words!

This is a great weekend hop, you can even link up to your FB account!

VGNO – Party Time

I don’t have much to say tonight, but for once I’m home on a Saturday night and can PARTY with Ann and all the party blog hoppers! Click on the button above and you can party too.

I might have to make a run to the State Store (ABC, Liquor Store.. for those non-Pennsylvanians) and pick up the making for one of the drinks Ann is serving. Who am I kidding? I’m not moving off this couch, my Arizona Arnold Palmer Half and Half will have to do!

Tara’s “down the shore” (aka at the beach today) with her friend, so I am having a quiet peaceful evening at home!  I worked today, then headed to Build-A-Bear for a cheer me up bear for my Aunt Alice who will be starting chemo soon and a quick dinner with my mom.

Want a good laugh?  Visit Life Laugh Latte… and watch their video!

I can’t wait until the heart shape rock makes it to my house… I have a great idea where it is going to visit!  (Don’t know what I am talking about… see here!

A photo to share… this was the sunset last night from outside of work… I took it with my IPhone, and LOVE the lens flare!

Have a great rest of the weekend. Party ON!

Friday Fragments, Give Me Your Best Shot and VGNO!

Mommy's Idea

I’ve been slacking on my blogging. Once the routine is broken, it is hard to get back into it, I guess that is the way it is with anything!  Click on the button if you would like to visit Mrs. 4444, and other Friday Fragmenters.

It is snowing, it has been snowing since early yesterday morning. The snow did not stick the the sidewalks and roads early in the day, but later on when the temperatures dropped and the winds picked up things started to stick. It is hard to tell how much snow we have because it is a light and blowing snow. I am ready for this one to stop anytime now, because I have to be at work at 4pm!

My birthday this week was pretty uneventful. I wanted to thank my friend Matty (he’s a IRL “neighbor”) for his wonderful shout out on his blog about my day. I still need to visit all those new folks that visited from his blog. I’ve been a bad commenter too!  I got four new followers this week, and I am sure I have Matty to thank for that.  He started a new photo blog this week…. you can check that out too!  It seems that Matty tried one of Mrs. 4444’s recipes this week and it was a hit.  I might have to try it out too.  Tara loves scalloped potatoes.

Tara will be THIRTEEN on Thursday. I feel like this is a week of “lasts” for her. The last Friday before she becomes a teen, etc.  I am SCARED to have a teenager in the house, but really I think the TEEN DRAMA started already.  Give me the strength I need to get through at least the next 6 years!  We will be having family over on Thursday night for pizza.  No big party, I just can’t do it this year!

My great nephews are coming over today for a few hours. Their mom has to work, and dad was able to make some money plowing/shoveling. It will be good for Tara to have the kids around. We will have to fit in schoolwork around them or over the weekend!e

Work is going well, I do enjoy it, some days the “getting out of the house” part is the hard part, but once I am there I enjoy the time. My feet and legs are feeling much better at the end of each night. I do have to remember to take my Aleve! I a working Fri-Sun this weekend, and then not again until Friday.

I really don’t have much else to say, my fragments are BORING, but I wanted to get back into the habit! So this is a start!

Here is my favorite photo from the week. I also posted over on my photo blog for Ruby Tuesday, but not everyone visits that blog! Photography has been a bit of an effort this week, it is hard when nothing is going on and there is no creativity going one! One day I resorted to writing BLAH on a piece of paper and taking that for my daily photo! I have not missed a day since 1/1!

Lolli @ Better in Bulk hosts GMYBS each Friday for us to showcase our favorite picture(s) of the week.

Hopefully I can come back and edit this for VGNO before I go to work, but if not ENJOY blog hopping.  Not sure I will get back here tonight after work!  Ann @ Ann Again and Again always hosts the best virtual parties!

Friday Fragments, Give Me Your Best Shot and VGNO!

Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Mrs. 4444 hosts Friday Fragments as a place for us to blog all that stuff that is not worthy of it’s own blog, but I’ve got NOTHING, NOTHING I tell you. This has been a very B-O-R-I-N-G week.

I’ve been home since Tuesday, no work until Friday and Saturday, which I would bet just about anything at least one shift might be preempted by snow. Not sure how the retail world handles snow storms, I’m pretty close, but if the roads are bad, I prefer to not be on them!

Tara will officially be a TEENAGER in 27 days.  I am afraid, very afraid.  95% of the time she is a great kid, but that other 5% of the time makes me want to run away from home.  It is almost like having a two year old again who throws tantrums, but these tantrums come with attitude and really mean words.  Yesterday, I took my purse and keys and went to the car.  I really really wanted to drive away – far far away, but I forgot my cell phone, and I didn’t want to leave home without it.  Sometimes it is just too hard being the grown up!  (Later, after dinner we but it all behind us with a game of Sorry, Disney Candyland and Scrabble – we will see what today brings!  I have a feeling over the next 5 years we might be playing a lot of games of Sorry!)

Give Me Your Best Shot

Lolli hosts Give Me Your Best Shot each week stop over and visits.  She’s got some great photography lessons going on over there too!
I didn’t do too much photography this week, except for a function that I shoot some pictures for my neighbor.  I found it REALLY challenging, the walls were yellowish, as was the lighting.  I need to learn about lighting, I did not want to use flash.

Since I’m working this afternoon, I don’t know if I will be around in time to participate in Ann’s VGNO, but that shouldn’t stop you!  Okay, I’ve got time for the game, but no time to prepare food or beverage!
The Mighty Three

Name 3 Places You Would Rather Be Right Now:
1.) Home (I’m headed to work, and would rather stay home because it is going to SNOW)
2.) An island – like St Croix, St Maarten, St Kitts… I’m not picky.
3.) In a snow resort/spa – yes, I know it is cold and the idea might be to get away from winter, but if you just have to stay in the lodge and be pampered it is NICE!

Name 3 Things You Will NEVER Drink Again:
1.) Tequila shots (I can do margaritas)
2.) Red Bull
3.) Buttermilk

3 People You Would Like To Have Dinner With-Not necessarily at the same time:
1.) My Dad & Brother(I’m assuming this could be anyone alive or deceased)
2.) Thomas Jefferson
3.) John Travalota

Friday Fragments & Virtual GNO

PhotobucketMommy's Idea

I have not been the best blogger (or photographer) this week.  I am getting accustomed to my new schedule and routine.  I was confused all week, I worked Sunday night, and working on a Sunday is something I have not done in many many years.  All week I thought I was a day ahead of time until I stopped and thought about it.

I’m throwing out the few fragments I have for the day.  Mrs. 4444 gives us the opportunity each Friday to cleanse our brains.  She’s been using a neti pot all week to cleanse her sinuses.  I hope she is feeling better real soon!

I know we have been selling lots of cold and flu related products!

It is 3:15pm, I am just writing my Friday post, and I am still in my BATHROBE. (To quote MckMama… NOT ME!)
Wednesday I was out of coffee, I planned on heading to the store to remedy the issue, but the “tug” to Dunkin Donuts was really strong.  I made the mistake of posting on Facebook that I was heading out for coffee, and my niece asked me to bring her a cup.  She works in a restaurant… I guess she doesn’t like their coffee!  Anyway, I was in DD for a long time, texting Jodie to make sure I got what she wanted.  I wasn’t in a hurry to go anywhere.  Finally I had placed the order, and turned to leave, and there behind me stood my cousin Nancy.  She lives 2 miles from us, and we have not connected since we’ve been back.  I guess the “tug” toward DD was so I could run into her.  One of these days we will make time to get together and have a cup of coffee, but I will have to tell Nancy an hour earlier than I want to meet, Nancy is never on time.  (That is why I have not seen her at any family functions, we always seem to leave, before she arrives!)

I really am enjoying my job.  My feet are starting to adjust. I enjoy chatting with the customers, getting to know my co-workers, and getting to know the products.  Again, this is not a glamorous job (although I am a “Beauty Adviser” (that title makes me chuckle!)), but I am embracing the experience!

I am not a competitive person by nature, at least not against other people, but I am competitive with myself.  There are a few thresholds that we as the cosmetic department strive to achieve, and I find myself excited when I know I am doing my part to help meet these thresholds. I bring the coupons from the paper for products we sell in the cosmetic department, and enjoy sharing them with my customers.  It is nice to pass on the savings of a coupon that I otherwise would not be using, and the customers appreciate the gesture!

It is COLD again, really cold and windy.  As much as I would love another snowstorm, I am glad we are being spared the one that is coming across the country.  It should stay south of us.

Tonight I have my first photography “job”.  My neighbor has asked me to photograph an art sale she is hosting in our community center.  I was paid back in December (the original date had to be postponed), with a lovely piece of art work.  I am looking forward to the opportunity!  She will be using some of the photos on the website she is creating, so hopefully I can assist her in that too.

Ann is throwing her VGNO party tonight.  Ann remembers “Catcher in the Rye” as her best book adventure ever.  I too remember reading this book in 10th grade, and it being one of my favorite books at that time.  RIP Mr. Salinger!  Speaking of reading, I really need to find time this weekend to finish my book club book.  I am enjoying the book, however have not been making time to read.  I am excited that I am reading again, I just need to make reading time a priority!

I’m going to serve up some Grand Marnier and a nice chocolate fondue this evening.  Great for a chilly night!

Game Time – Librarian Alter Ego – Mine is PEPPER RHEA-LISTIK

Here is how to play – If your first name begins with letters A – E, your first name would be: Bubbles. Follow the chart to see what your Librarian’s Alter Ego name is.

First Name=
A – E: Bubbles
F – J: Cookie
K – O: Pepper
P – T: Honey
U – Z: Pebbles

Last Name=
A – E: Featherbottom
F – J: Ivanabee-Queen
K – O: Rhea-Listik
P – T: Anitacocktail
U – Z: Mona-Lott

I guess I better get off of here and figure out what I am going to feed my real family for dinner tonight.. .the virtual fondue and Grand Marnier won’t do the trick!

Have a great weekend!
